Police in Gaborone are investigating an incident in which a man allegedly dropped his wife from a second floor roof top during a domestic fight.
Information reaching The Telegraph suggests that Vineet Kumar, 38, a finance manager with Spar Supermarket in Gaborone Main Mall, allegedly broke his wife’s spine after he dropped her from the second floor of Flat K14 in the Village Flats – allegedly during a domestic fight.
The injured wife, Pankaj Verma, who has a four-month-old baby, was rushed to the hospital where she is receiving treatment.
Kumar is expected to appear before the Extension 2 Magistrate Court on the 4th of August, 2010 to answer a single count of grievous bodily harm.
Case prosecutor from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, Merapelo Mokgosi, told the court that the suspect should be remanded in police custody while police investigations continue and asked the court that Kumar be sent for mental assessment.
Gaborone Central Police Station Commander, Superintendent Kevin Mookodi, confirmed that police were holding a man in connection with the incident.
“Investigations are still ongoing to establish what led to the fight,” he said, adding that in his jurisdiction, it is not common for members of the Asian community to report domestic violence to the police and urged the public to report all criminal activities to the police.
