Woman lands in court after assaulting boyfriend’s sister

Mavis Baloyi, 26, a resident of New Stance in Gaborone, was this week arraigned before the Urban Customary Court President, Kgosi Dikwalo Monametsi, charged with affray on August 28, 2006. She pleaded guilty.

According to the State Prosecutor from the Urban Police Station, Constable Happy Six, told the court that on August 28, 2006, Mavis reported to the Urban Police saying that her boyfriend’s sister was insulting her after having misunderstandings. Police went and picked up Gaaretwe, the boyfriend’s sister, who stayed with her brother in a house next to where Mavis stayed.

It then emerged that Mavis is the one who assaulted her boyfriend’s sister after they had exchanged words.

Kgosi Monametsi told the two to always solve their problems amicably and advised them to always ask someone to mediate when they have misunderstandings. Kgosi Monametsi told the court that custodial sentences are not always the best remedy when people have misunderstandings.
He warned the two and discharged them.
