The man considered the toast of Botswana hip hop, Zeus, has just signed a licensing deal with leading cellular network provider, Mascom. The one-year deal will allow Mascom to use Zeus’ song Summer Celebration for promotional purposes. By signing this deal, Mascom will be able to use the song as a vehicle for its radio and TV adverts, as well as a ring tone.
Since before the video for his debut hit single, Imagination, off the unreleased album, Club, corners and Churches, Zeus has consistently made and released quality music that garnered positive responses from his audience, local and international.
Summer Celebration is an apt response to the demands of a public hungry for music from the intrepid artist. The song, is an amazing addition to Zeus’ already impressive discography, and should warm things up this winter right through to December.
Zeus is already making waves off the strength of a few tracks that have made their way onto local and international radio stations. The track Kwela Man by South African group Kwela Tebza which features, DJ S’bu, aka Mzekezeke, the legendary Mahotella Queens and Zeus is a superb fusion of hip hop, kwaito and maskandi.
The latest song from Zeus making waves around Africa is titled “Champagne music”. The song debuted at number 1 on the Metro FM Hip Hop Countdown. Its video, made a month ago in Johannesburg, features popular South African DJ T-Bo Touch; it was screened on SABC 1’s LIVE! music program where it debuted as the opening video for last Friday’s show.
As an artist, Zeus is well respected in Botswana and South Africa, with demands for his music coming from further afield in Africa.
Over the years, the artist has set himself apart from his peers by dazzling audiences with cutting-edge lyricism and is considered by most as the standard bearer of Botswana’s emerging hip hop industry. His skills have been tried, tested and proven in collaborations with some of the biggest names in the local and regional fraternity.
Quite notably, people will always remember his features on HHP’s YBA 2 NW and his current chart buster, Acceptance Speech. The duo will once again linkup on the remix for the Mascom-endorsed Summer Celebration. Zeus’ star power is also constantly courted, as evident by his recent judging of the Botswana search for its representative on MC Africa for Channel O and the performing at the launch of the Coca Cola Cup.
Together with the likes of Owen Rampha, a.k.a Mr O, Zeus is being managed by long time friend and business partner, Tshepo Rox Sikwane of Big Dawg Productions and plans are at an advanced stage for the reloading of the Freshly Baked album to include songs like Champagne music for distribution in the South African market.
Batswana would once again get the honour and opportunity of witnessing the stage and lyrical presence of Zeus as he is slated to perform at the French Music Festival or Fete de la Musique at Botswana Craft this Saturday where he will perform with a live band at 9:30 p.m.
