Botswana’s hip hop music sensation, Zeus the rapper, has been nominated for yet another Channel O music video award.
Zeus has come a long way as an artist, entrepreneur and, indeed, as a brand.
He has already won a Channel O award before.
Born as Game Bantsi, Zeus is one of Botswana’s freshest talents to emerge in the country’s music scene.
This year, Zeus has been nominated under the most gifted male for his smash hit song ‘Champagne Music’ from his latest album called “The Flipside.”
This year’s competition looks a bit stiff for our local rapper. Other African music artists nominated under the same category include heavyweights such as K’naan, Black Coffee, Banky W and Whande Coal.
“I appreciate all those who have contributed to my growth in one way or the other and I urge you to keep supporting Zeus,” he says. “My video for Champagne Music was shot at four ways in Johannesburg. I’d like to thank outer limits for hosting the shoot. Thank you to everybody who showed love, passion and energy on set.’
Zeus has recently established his own record label and events company, D.I.Y Entertainment.
He ventures into the music business with a university background in Marketing and Management. This has equipped the young gifted rapper with the acumen to tackle such a business venture head on.
With his talent and ability to network and develop a strong business support system, he works closely with the likes of Lekoko Entertainment and Big Dawg Productions. Cybil Nyte, who was crowned the best freestyle battle rapper in Africa, is also under Zeus’s watchful eye. The two seem to be getting along quite well.
“Zeus is more like a brother to me than a mentor and he has done a lot for me,” says Cybil Nyte.
Prodigiously talented Cybil Nyte, together with Zeus, has before performed on the same stage with African hip-hop royalty.
This includes the likes of Naeto C (Nigeria), Nazizi (Kenya), HHP (SA) and Proverb (SA).
Already a successful release from D.I.Y Entertainment is a joint venture with another company, RIZN Entertainment, for his latest album ‘The Flipside.’ Tshepho ‘Rox’ Sikwane says he has come a long way with Zeus. ‘We started knowing each other since our high school days, and I’ve been his manager since day one,’ says Sikwane. Lately, Rapper Zeus is in the process of shooting his latest video for his latest single ‘I’m Outta My Mind.’ It is being shot and edited by local Channel O award winning filmmaker Shike Olsen. ‘Right now we are still in the pre production stage of the video.’ ‘It should be done by the end of the year,’ says Zeus.
