A hippo kills another person in Ngami

Police in Maun are investigating a case in which a 56 year old woman of Khwai settlement in Moremi Game Reserve was attacked and killed by a hippo on Sunday. The woman, who was in the company of her 32 year old daughter, had gone to collect water lily (Tswii) along Khwai River when disaster struck. According Assistant Superintendent Boreteletswe Papani of Maun Police, Khwai satellite police officers together with officicers of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks rushed to the scene whereupon the woman was rushed to the clinic nearby where she was certified dead upon arrival.

In another incident, a 12 year girl of Boseja ward who had been left at home with her eight year old sister was attacked and raped by two men while their mother had gone on a night out. Papani said the two men dragged the elder sibling to their house and took turns to rape her, despite her screams. He advised that mothers should take care of their girl children particularly to avoid similar incidents. The two men are assisting the police in their ongoing investigations.
