Our country stands at a historic juncture. Its governance architecture, built on an aged constitution, a mineral-dependent economy and widening inequality faces growing pressure to adapt to modern realities. Batswana now demand greater transparency, fairer distribution of wealth and institutions that can respond to the challenges of a society far more complex than the one imagined in the nineteen sixties.

It is for this reason that, on the first anniversary of the Second Republic, I write not only to you, Mr Speaker, but also to your counterpart in the Judiciary, Chief Justice Gaopalelwe Ketlogetswe.
