BancABC Botswana, the listed banking outfit, has launched its Maun branch with the bank’s executives pledging to support and contribute towards communities that surrounds the tourism town.
The bank has already forged a partnership with the Social and Community Development Office (S&CD) in the North West District Council and will build a house for a family they have since identified in Shashe ward which he says well deserves their support.
Managing Director, Jitto Kurian, said the bank took time to launch the branch in order to allow the Maun residents to get used to their banking services.
“One of the core values that form the foundation upon which BancABC operates is our focus on people because we recognise that within and outside our organisation, people are the single most important success factor,” Kurian explained when launching the branch.
The Maun branch adds to the eight which are already in operation, comprising a flagship loan centre and four branches in Gaborone, another one in Francistown, one in Palapye and Selebi Phikwe.
The bank’s Country Head of Retail and SME Banking, Gavin Savala, said they moved to Maun after taking into consideration the rapid growth of the village coupled with the fact that it is also a tourist destination.
He said the urge to open for business then arose, as they wanted to be part of that growth, and for residents not to feel left out, considering the long distance from other urban centers. He said the customer experience is an important theme for BancABC, as they want to be the best service bank in the country, which is why they want to place measures in place to ensure all their dreams are achieved.
The bank, which is subsidiary of ABC Holdings Limited, has been in operation since 1989 as a leasing business and later became a merchant bank which is now listed in the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE).
