Local summer enthusiasts will be treated to something similar to what their overseas counterparts are treated to when the 4th Annual Beach party comes around during the first weekend of December.
The Western culture inspired theme party comprises of a line-up which involves hip hop, dancehall, electro music and a little bit of the house genre.
Those who watched the latest concert videos of the ‘crazy’ European dance music boy band Swedish House Mafia will know exactly how summer should be celebrated.
In the videos, the band shows people are semi naked and exposed to the sunlight in what looks like a dance music.
“I do not mind if I die after having this kind of fun…this is too much fun,” Kao Motsumi said in an interview as we watched the Swedish House band videos.
What the Jamm Power entertainers (beach party organisers) plan to bring inside Botswana borders is what they prefer to call “a beach within reach party.”
It promises to be nothing less than an electric summer fiesta, said the organisers. This will be a nice way of ending your year on a high note for those like Motsumi who usually fantasise about the Western partying style.
However the party does not come at a cheap price as it will cost Jamm Power over half a million Pula to organise the show at Lions Park Resort to bring the best entertainment in the world.
“For the past five years we have been trying to change the perception of Batswana that you cannot have a beach party in this landlocked country and enjoy just like in states that are next to the sea,” said the Director of Jamm Power Tumelo “Tuks” Lekolwane.
Lekolwane is subscribing to the South African township lingo of “local is lekker” here by making sure that almost 90 percent of his Disc Jockeys are local. The local spin doctors will be hitting the decks in a music language that is only understood by hip hop, dancehall and electro fanatics. And there will surely be dancing and sweating, the organisers said.
The heavyweights of the Botswana hip hop industry are priming to dazzle the summer fanatics. But the class act is expected to come from South African hip hop artist and multi-award winner Khuli Chana. He will be the main act of the Beach party and is expected to pull crowds from all corners of Southern Africa.
The event is a far cry from what is expected by the perpetual insomniacs who hold the view that fun is done only or better during the night. The beach party is an all day festival that caters for those who love the sunlight and the dark.
“Partying does not mean darkness. People should come as early as possible as most of activities will be done during the day,” said Lekolwane.
Hopefully those with hydrophobia would stand a chance to face and defeat their fears as there will be a lot of swimming during the day.
This time around men are included in a game of beach volleyball unlike in the past when they would go there to watch their female counterparts spiking it in their sexy swimwear.
Playstation fanatics will also be locking horns in the FIFA playstation tournament. Summer games like zorball and rodeo bull will also add spice to entertain the sun-kissed revellers throughout the day.
It does not mean wild fun such as this does not need rules. Beach wear (short dressing) is the allowed as dress code. Lekolwane said people who come with clothing that would spoil the theme party will be sent back.
Under age children (below 18 years) will not be allowed. Lekolwane said they have in the past beach parties received reports of under age children leaving home early telling parents they are going swimming only to come the following morning drunk or robbed and beaten. Lekolwane said as a responsible brand they are trying to encourage legality, responsibility and order in societies.
