Bokomo Unveils Refurbished Milling Plant

Local fast-moving consumer goods distributor, Bokomo Botswana has said that it aspires for continuous product development and innovation while also maintaining satisfactory standards in existing products.

This past week, the Gaborone based company revealed upgraded mill facilities that has been undertaking since the first quarter of 2018.

Chief Executive Officer of Bokomo, Werner De Beer said, “The decision to upgrade and refurbish our milling plant was inspired by our passion and ambition to be the leading fast-moving consumer goods distributor within Botswana.”

The food manufacturer and distributor said this will have a significantly positive impact on the manner in which they carry their operations as it ensures improved productivity, cut on costs of production and eventually realize price savings for the consumer. Adding that it is a significant step as the company is in better place to meet demand and drive larger volumes.

According to De Beer the investment comes after Bokomo received an international award which was a first of its kind in the milling category, the International Standard Organization ISO 9001:2015 certification from Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS).

The BOBS certificate is an honor that recognises excelling management systems. It also gauges a wide range of issues such as customer satisfaction and service delivery through effective management systems and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

While Jaco Venter, Operations Manager of Bokomo noted that, “Our mills and sifters are now of the latest technology and capacity, with an increase in production output of five percent, a significant margin which will guarantee maximum productivity and delivery for us here at Bokomo.”

Venter stated that the upgrade of the infrastructure took place over the period of a month and at the end of it all stood at an expense of P20million.

Bokomo locally manufactures White Star Maize Meal, Bokomo Special Maize Meal, Samp and Maize Rice. In addition, the company also produces the Pure Sugar brand of refined brown and white sugar and distributes a range of other agency foods nationwide.
