Botswana, as a member of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), will again this year participate in the UPU the 48th International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People.
Young people all over the world this year are being invited to write a letter under the theme “Write a letter about your hero”.
The competition is an excellent way for young people to develop their writing skills and to express their thoughts clearly and foster enjoyment of letter writing. It creates awareness among young people on the important role of the postal sector in economies as well as strengthens international relations.
The competition is open to students up to the age of 15 years and closes on the 5th April, 2019.
BotswanaPost will award prizes to the schools and students producing the top three letters at national level. The top three schools will be awarded money prizes of P15 000, P10 000 and P5 000 respectively.
The best letter at national level will be sent to the Universal Postal Union to compete with other letters from the UPU member countries all over the world. The international winner will be announced not later than 31st October 2019.
In 2011, Botswana got position 3 in the world through Charlene Tlagae’s letter, then a Form 2 student at Crescent English Medium School in Lobatse; while the 2017 installment was won by 13 year old Gracious Orefile Mogomotsi from Serameng Primary School in Mogoditshane at national level.
BotswanaPost urges all schools that have not received letters inviting them to participate in the competition by the end of February 2019 to visit the nearest post office for assistance.
