Butale and Mabote are BTTA Top 16 champs

Boitshwarelo Butale and Bonolo Mabote this weekend emerged Botswana Top 16 table tennis champions. The tournament marked the end of Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) tour of 2009/2010 Top 16 ranked players in both men and women categories.

Matshidiso Osi came second to Butale in the women’s singles whilst Joseph Kgatlampane came second in the men’s singles. BTTA Tournament Organiser, Rorisang Raesima explained that throughout the whole season players have been ranked according to their performances. Therefore only the first top 16 ranked players in both men and women’s categories were invited to take part.

“They took part in all events; singles, men and women doubles and mixed doubles,” he said. He also said that a single knockout system was adopted in the singles category, while a double knockout system was used in all the doubles. All the games were officiated by International Table Tennis Federation approved umpires.

Raesima also thanked the public for their record attendance.
He also said that they are impressed with the level of skills development displayed by all of the players. “Table Tennis is moving forward and we are planning to run a league before the end of this year,” he said.
