Cricket Without Boundaries (CWB), a United Kingdom-based charity organization that is mandated with promoting cricket in developing countries and spreading HIV/Aids awareness, will next week Wednesday visit Masunga Village to promote the sport of cricket and to also sensitize the villagers about the HIV/Aids scourge.
Speaking to the Sunday Standard in an interview, Clement Chipanga, the Northern Regional Development Officer from the Botswana Cricket Association and who is also the coordinator of the tour, said that CWB will train students and teachers from various schools in the village on basic cricket skills. He said that it will also sensitize the participants against the HIV/Aids disease.
“CWB has contributed a lot in the growth of cricket in Botswana as it continues to support us with training, equipment and even sports kit. The organization is making its third visit to Botswana,” he added.
He added that CWB’s first visit to Botswana was in 2010 when it trained students and teachers in various schools in Gaborone and Francistown. Chipanga said that this time the organization decided to visit Masunga as part of its efforts to reach out to the rural areas in the country.
“Since its formation in 2005, CWB has become one of the world’s leading Cricket Development and AIDS awareness charities. It is an organization which is dedicated to helping, educating and developing communities around the world through the spread and growth of cricket. It is about personal empowerment, both for adults and for children,” he said.
Chipanga added that the organization has been working primarily in Southern Africa and has some projects in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia. He said that that the organization has trained a high number of children in some of the poorest communities in the world.
“Poor communities in different parts of the world have benefited from this charity organization,” he said.
