I read with great interest a story in Mmegi on June 13th, 2026, entitled “IEC Pushes for Digital Election Reforms.” Although tucked away on page 13, it deserves urgent national attention. The article quotes the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Secretary, Mr. Jefferson Siamisang, telling the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that the IEC is rolling out technology-driven reforms to modernize voter registration, manage data more efficiently, and eliminate administrative errors. At the center of this digital transformation is a new Elections Management System (EMS) designed to replace aging platforms developed in the 1990s. This system has reportedly already been developed and is undergoing extensive testing ahead of its planned deployment for the 2029 General Elections.
