Expatriate teacher burns himself to death

Less than a week after a mysterious fire gutted a whole administration block at Letlhakane Senior Secondary School in Letlhakane Village, Police are investigating yet another horrific case in which a Malawian expatriate, who was a teacher at Boteti Unified School, died after he set himself alight.

The Station Commander of Letlhakane Police Station, Loeto Ramabokwa, confirmed to the Sunday Standard that they received the report about the incident on Tuesday.

“In the late hours of Tuesday we received a report from a young woman of Mokgobelele Ward in Letlhakane that the man who was her neighbour had set himself on fire,” the Station Commander said.
Ramabokwa added that upon arrival at the scene, they found the man in flames and they put out the fire and rushed him to the hospital, saying his body was badly burnt.

He said that the following morning, they received the news from the hospital that the man had died.
“We went into his house and we smelled paraffin which we suspect he used to burn himself,” he said.
Although the investigations are still on-going, Ramabokwa maintained that the man committed suicide. He went on to say that they have never had any similar incidents in Letlhakane.
