Form 5 student at Ledumang Senior Secondary School sentenced to prison

An 18-year-old Form Five student at Ledumang Senior Secondary School this Friday pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting another student, stealing her money and her Nokia cell phone, worth P400.

Poloko Marumo, 18, from Goo Moeng Ward in Ramotswa, was sentenced to one year in jail, wholly suspended for three years, plus five strokes on the bum for theft and assaulting a Form 3 student at Nanogang.

State Prosecutor from the Central Police Station, Constable Ditiro Phirinyana, told the court that students and members of the school Security arrested the accused after a long chase inside Nanogang School after the theft of the cell phone and money came to light.

The owner of the cell phone, Lorato Letsholo, a student at Nanogang but from Boseja Ward in Mahalapye, told the Urban Customary Court President that when she was on her way from the toilet, she met the accused who then grabbed and kicked her before taking her phone together with her money.

He was sentenced to one year in jail, wholly suspended for three years, plus five strokes.
