Former BDP councilor swears never a return to BDP

Naledi Central councilor, who recently defected from the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) to join the Botswana Movement for Democracy has vowed never to retrace his footsteps back to the BDP.
Together with the Gaborone deputy mayor, Haskins Nkayigwa, Oabile Mafunga recently defected to the BMD.

Mafunga has since dismissed rumours that he may be on his way back to the BDP.

“I am not that kind. Ga ke chekwane. If I have made my mind I would not be easily convinced by anyone because the decision I took was honest and genuine to my conscience,” said Mafunga on Monday.
“To date I have not been approached by anybody. But even if one would have attempted to do so I would not budge,” he said, adding “I am a member of BMD that is all.”

Mafunga would, however, not predict his chances of standing in national elections, saying he would cross the bridge when it avails itself as there are many things that need to be ironed out in view of the ongoing opposition cooperation talks.
