Former MP Inheritance matter resolved

Former Mahalapye Member of Parliament, Gaolese Koma’s property, which includes a farm, livestock and houses, has been awarded to Patricia and Mathamelo Mpa as inheritance following the amicable resolution of the matter in Court.

Before the Court ruling, a Mahalapye woman, Onneile Koma, had contested the matter, alleging that she was the sole beneficiary of Koma’s property as she was her biological daughter. She produced evidence in Court which in the end convinced High Court judge David Newman that she was indeed Koma’s daughter and entitled to inherit his property.

After the case, however, new evidence in the form of a will surfaced showing that Koma’s property had been given to Patricia and Mathamelo Mpa who had been contesting the matter.

Amongst the properties they are inheriting are: a house in Dilaene Ward, Mahalapye, motor vehicles – including a Mercedes Benz, Cressida, Land Cruiser, Volvo tractor, gun and household properties.

Koma, a veteran ruling Botswana Democratic Party MP, died in 2006 and his position as Mahalapye MP was contested and won by recently retired Lieutenant General Mompati Merafhe.
