Gaborone North West councilor dies

The Botswana Movement for Democracy councilor for Sebele Ward in Gaborone North West constituency, Gaburune Linchwe, passed away on Friday morning.

Linchwe joined the bandwagon of former Botswana Democratic Party faithful who jumped ship for the BMD, which confirmed the loss.

“Yes, it is true; our colleague Linchwe died this morning. He was a councilor in the Gaborone North West constituency,” was all the BMD data clerk, Khumo Sentsho, could say.

Party colleague, Councilor Oabile Mafunga of Naledi South, said that Linchwe died following a short illness.

“He fell sick almost three weeks ago and died this morning at Bokamoso Private Hospital,” said Mafunga.

Linchwe becomes the first serving BMD councilor to pass away after national elections, which saw the dramatic and unprecedented split of the ruling BDP as hordes of notable party members left the BDP for the new party.

Funeral arrangements had not been announced at the time of going to press.
