Galane Gold Mine to host Wellness Day

As part of its efforts to promote wellness among its employees and the community in which it operates, Galane Gold Mine near Matsiloje Village will on the 3rd of December host a Wellness Day, which will focus mainly on spreading the message on HIV/Aids infections.

Speaking to The Sunday Standard, the Wellness Committee Chairperson at the Mine, Anastasia Nganda, said that the objective of the event is to try and sensitize the public, especially the mine workforce, about the importance of living a healthy life and to avoid HIV/Aids infections.

“The event is an expansion of our annual HIV/Aids Devotional Day. We are going to conduct a march from the Matsiloje main road to the mine and we will be carrying placards bearing the messages on HIV/Aids,” she said.

Nganda added that the event will also help create awareness of the wellness concept and provide a platform for employees and the community to openly discuss wellness issues. She added that it is very important for any organization to promote wellness among its employees as it also boosts their productivity.

“We are expecting to host at least 600 participants and we have invited medical experts, psychologists, banks and even church leaders,” she said.

Nganda also noted that they have invited the Chief of Matsiloje Village, Seleka Moipolai, who will be the guest speaker at the event. She added that they will be testing facilities in place for those who are willing to test for various diseases.

Various music groups and drama artists have also been invited to perform at the event, which will be held under the theme: “Getting to zero new infection by 2016, Zero discrimination and Zero Aids related deaths”.
