General elections scheduled for October 16

President Lt Gen Ian Khama this morning issued a writ of elections announcing October 16th as the date for Botswana’s 2009 General Election.

Independent Electoral Commissions Secretary, Gabriel Seeletso says the president “directed that the nominations for National Assembly Elections for all the 57 constituencies be held on 18th September, 2009 from 9 am to 5 pm.

The Minister of Local Government has also issued Elections Instruments directing that nominations for local Government elections for all 490 polling stations be held on 18th September 2009 and that polls be taken on the 16th of October.
