The government has extended a lifeline to Ngamiland farmers by introducing a locally manufactured topline dip produced by the Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI). This initiative comes as a ray of hope for Ngamiland farmers who have been grappling with the dire consequences of a Bovine Dermatophilosis (commonly known as Senkobo) outbreak that has ravaged the region.
The plea for government intervention came as numerous cattle perished due to the outbreak, leaving farmers in a state of despair. Andrew Madeswi, CEO of the BVI, confirmed the rollout of the topline dip and emphasized the urgency of addressing the livestock crisis. He reported that veterinary officials are actively on the ground, vaccinating cattle against foot-and-mouth disease and concurrently administering the topline dip to combat bovine dermatophilosis.
