With only a few days left before Gaborone hosts a stellar music experience called I am legend , many people cannot contain their excitement judging by the way tickets are selling. The show which celebrates music legends that have made a mark for themselves in a short period of time will be hosted at the newly built Molapo Piazza on the 29th of this month.
The show features prominent names in the music industry including the likes of the talented Jazz legend Don Laka, South African acapella trio The soil, Vusi Nova, Mmaphala and local artist Lizibo.
The organizer of the event Thabo Letshwiti said this is going to be a great music experience not only for the performers but also their fans as they will get a chance to see their favorite music pioneers of different genres under one roof doing what they know best. “The show provides a platform for local artists and their regional counterparts to share knowledge and for local audiences across generations to share one space,” he said.
Letshwiti said that tickets are selling like hot cakes. “People are excited about the show and this is evident in the number of sales we record each day, people buy the tickets in large numbers and I am sure pretty soon they will be sold out,” he said.
He said that when they were planning for the show, they made sure they catered for the old generation as well as the new generation so that all people can come and have a night of fun.
“That is why in the lineup there are fresh artists like Lizibo, The soil and Vusi Nova, but, then again, we also have seasoned singers like Don Laka as well as Mmaphala. All this was such that every one of different ages can be accommodated because we believe in partying together,” he said.
Letshwiti further said that Batswana love The Soil. He said that he observed the way many Batswana requested promoters on social media sites to bring the acapella group again to Botswana. “The group has been doing really well all over Africa as well as overseas and their latest album, Nostalgic, has been receiving a lot of appreciation all over. They have worked with other legends like Ladysmith Mambazo as well as Khuli Chana,” he said.
He added that other artists on the line up are also in demand as evidenced by their Facebook pages. “Everyone is excited and we have received many messages that thank us for a job well done,” he said.
He said that the concept of the show’s title comes from the fact that the show aims at reprising pioneers of great music and refreshing modern entertainment with live music. “The show is a platform of harnessing great music from the old generation and passing the baton to the new generation. This is also an appreciation of new age artists inspired to play live music and an opportunity for them to share a stage with icons,” he said.
The master of the ceremony for the night is former big brother contestant Goitse Kgaswane. Letshwiti said that they are all about nurturing young talent that is why they choose the young vibrant Goitse to be part of the show. He added that she is also the spokesperson and face of the show.
“Everyone is a legend in their own merits and our aim is to have good quality fun while we develop talent, so people need to get ready for this show,” he said.
