Increase in youth murder cases worries Francistown Police

The ever increasing number of youth murder cases is causing concern to the Francistown Police.
Confirming the recent murder of a 20-year-old woman, the Station Commander of the Tati Town Police station, Tebogo Madisa, told The Sunday Standard in a telephone interview last week that the woman was murdered by another youth of 23 years.

Madisa revealed that ever since January this year, there has been nine murder cases among the youth.
“The increase in the murder rates among the youth is very worrisome,” he said, adding that most of the youth, when they have problems, especially with relationships, resort to violence or murder without seeking help from parents, social workers or relatives.

Madisa said that last week on Wednesday, there was report of a murder case in which a 20-year-old woman was found murdered at her parents’ home. He added that the suspect, who was on the run, handed himself to the police the following day.

“At the moment we cannot establish whether or not the suspect is the boyfriend to the deceased because the investigations are still at an initial stage,” he maintained.
