LEA, IDM team up to promote entrepreneurship in Botswana

The Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Institute of Development Management (IDM) with the purpose of creating a conducive environment for entrepreneurship in Botswana.

Botswana is on a drive to build an entrepreneurial economy as the great untapped opportunities are believed to be in entrepreneurship.

The LEA/IDM collaboration will afford both LEA clients and staff the prospect to have specialized training which is developed and implemented by IDM. In addition the partnership also includes internship opportunities for IDM students, who will have practical training through finding business solutions for LEA clients.

“Entrepreneurship development is a challenge that Botswana must meet in order for the country to achieve the objectives of sustainable economic growth and diversified nation,” said Tebogo Matome the Chief Executive Officer at LEA.

Matome said the MoU is a step forward to working together and forge linkages to assist entrepreneurs and enterprises. “The growth of entrepreneurship in Botswana is a vital wheel to moving towards the desired economic diversification,” he said. The two entities are both capacity building entities, which initially collaborated on a capacity building project through which five LEA clients were mentored in August 2013.

“The growth and success of our entrepreneurs and enterprises is dependent on the assistance received from LEA and it is therefore pivotal for our staff to possess exceptional skills and knowledge to positively direct our clients,” he added.

LEA and IDM confirmed that they will collaborate on research initiatives which will add value to any issues related to entrepreneurship in Botswana. The collaboration will assist in developing an entrepreneurial spirit amongst Batswana.

Faith Tombale the IDM Country Director said the partnership is timely to the development and growth of entrepreneurship.
