This week, I celebrated my birthday! Perhaps it’s a function of being a year older, but for few days before my actual birthday, I experienced a number of epiphanies. The Truth I had been seeking in relation to a number of issues began to surface; and I became inspired. Opportunities I had been waiting for finally began to present themselves; and doors that I had almost given up on began to open.
None of these amazing things occurred through my own doing. In fact, good things came to me as I accepted that I had run out of ideas; and that I had to let go and allow a Higher Power to guide me. That’s the thing few people will ever tell you, that struggle is futile; and that living a life of ease is not only the secret of success, it’s the key to happiness.
When we stop struggling to achieve our limited goals on a desperate timetable; and trust that God knew what we wanted even before we came to this earth; we begin to thrive!
Yet sadly, many of us equate a life of ease and peace with laziness. We feel like we have to justify our existence through struggle and discontent. It seems wrong to go through life without pain. After all, as the saying goes: ‘No pain, no gain.’ So we grow up believing that we have to fight for everything we want, because ‘there’s no such thing as a free lunch.’
I’m reminded of this story by Warner Faith, about a poor man who boarded an expensive ship to travel from Europe to the United States. He scraped together every penny he had to save for the ticket. Onboard, he brought a suitcase filled with cheese and crackers, for his meals while he was at sea.
At meal times, while all the other passengers went into a huge dining room stocked with delectable food and ate to their heart’s content, he sat in a corner eating cheese and crackers. Day after day, the smell of delicious food wafted through the air and, on numerous occasions, he overheard the other passengers discussing how each meal was better than the last. They rubbed their bellies and complained about how full they were. On some nights, he lay awake thinking about how much he’d love to join them but because he had no extra money, he continued his miserable diet.
Towards the end of the trip, a kindly man came up to him and said, “Sir, I can’t help but notice that you’re always over there eating cheese and crackers at mealtimes. Why don’t you eat with us in the banquet hall?”
Embarrassed, the poor traveller responded: “I had only enough money to buy the ticket. I don’t have any extra money for fancy meals.”
The other passenger shook his head and said, “Sir, don’t you realise that the meals are included in the price of your ticket? You meals have already been paid for!”
Many of us go through life like the poor man, eating cheese and crackers when we’re supposed to be dining on God’s finest. As God’s children, we’re supposed to select everything that pleases us from His unlimited buffet ÔÇô it’s been bought and paid for! We are meant to use and enjoy His resources to create a life of abundance. Lunch provided by God is always free!
Many of us need to let go of negative habits of thought, including the myth that we have to struggle for success. We need to cultivate more positive and supportive thoughts. Through practice, we can train our minds to accept that we are born worthy; that we can be, do or have anything that we want; and that happiness is our birthright.
If we persist with positive thinking, it comes more easily to us. And the more habitual positive thinking becomes in our lives, the more amazing the results! When we ask, it is always given.
But how do we ask for our desires? We don’t just ask through our words, but through our thoughts and our feelings too. If you want to attract abundance into your life, let go of your troubles. Worry doesn’t help solve them, it magnifies them!
Quiet your mind and you will immediately find rest; peace; and divine inspiration and guidance.
When you’re no longer blocking good things from flowing into your life by thinking contradictory thoughts, everything you want will start flowing to you more easily. If you think this is too simple to be effective, it’s only because you need to unlearn the negative and erroneous belief that life is supposed to be difficult.
When we quiet our minds and connect with God through meditation or prayer, we find ease and become inspired by a Higher Power; we are lead from within. This is the basis of our success!
We can’t achieve greatness solely through our genius.
The trick is to go through life identifying what we want; holding a vision of it; and staying positively focused on it even in the absence of outward manifestations. Every now and again, we may be inspired to act but sometimes, what we want comes to us in the most unexpected, easiest ways. “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God; and everything else will be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33).
God has infinite resources at his disposal; and he wants what’s best for us. He is our most powerful ally. If you want to irreversible, sustainable progress, commune with God daily. Allow yourself to be ‘lead from within.’
Make it a great week!
