Man assaults girlfriend for not cooking

Patrick Male, 21, a guard at Kalahari Power Bricks, appeared before the Urban Customary President, Kgosi Dikwalo Monametsi, charged with assault common.

Male, from Kgwakgwe Ward in Kanye, pleaded guilty to the charges of assaulting his girlfriend, Omphemetse Mmamonyana, 22, a cashier at a Phase 14 supermarket.

Constable Bathobakae of Urban Police Station told the court that Male came from work and found no food in the house where he stays with his girlfriend and lost his temper.

At the time, Mmamonyana was at the Bontleng Shopping Mall having some drinks with her friend. Male then showed up and grabbed her and dragged her to their house where he assaulted her several times for not having his food in the house.

When asked why she had not cooked, Mmamonyana told the court that she didn’t cook because her boyfriend had not bought the meat and she did not know what to cook.

Before passing the sentence Kgosi Monametsi wanted to know if the two were still lovers and Mmamonyana said they were still lovers but complained that the problem was that her boyfriend, who is the father of her child, always assaulted her for no good reason.

Monametsi advised the two to stay well together and ordered Male to stop assaulting his girlfriend. He, however, sentenced Male to three strokes on the bum.
