Man in custody for smashing woman’s head with concrete block

After a week on the run, a man is in police custody as a murder suspect after allegedly smashing a woman’s head with a concrete block in Kgatleng.

A Detective Superintendent of Mochudi Police Station, Phenyoitsile Nnanawakoko, told The Telegraph on Monday that they are investigating a case in which a woman was allegedly murdered in Rasesa a week ago.

He said the suspect was the last person to be seen with the deceased in Rasesa.

After the matter was reported to the police, the suspect was nowhere to be found.

Nnanawakoko added that a manhunt was lunched with the help of a police helicopter and on Monday this week, the suspect was arrested by the police in the nearby lands where he had been hiding since his disappearance from the village.

“The suspect is expected to appear before the Mochudi Magistrate Court, charged with murder,” he confirmed to the Telegraph.

Nnanawakoko said the arrest of the suspect will assist the police to establish the motive that led to the incident.

He, however, said in the last two weeks police had recorded about four murder cases in his policing area.

In one of the cases in Boseja Ward in Mochudi, a man was found dead by a passer-by in an open space and the passer-by reported to the police.

“We have no clue as to who the perpetrators are, therefore, we are appealing to members of the public to come forward with any bit of information that could lead us to the culprits,” he said.
