Miss Botswana Fashion show slated for next Saturday

Gaborone International Convention Centre is the place to be on May 7th when the top 16 contestants for this year’s Miss Botswana pageant will be strutting their stuff during the annual Miss Botswana fashion show.

For the third time in a row since the Miss Botswana pageant re-branding, 63 Entertainment is organizing the third Miss Botswana Fashion Show.

Addressing a press conference in Gaborone recently, Bissau Gaobakwe of 63 Entertainment said his team is going an extra mile to bring something different to the people, still as a way of advertising the country and unleashing to the world the talent that Botswana holds. He says the aim of Botswana is still to highlight Botswana’s rich cultural heritage while placing great emphasis on Botswana talent, attributes and lifestyle.

He said that they had liaised with a South African fashion designer who will be designing for the contestants while being promoted at the same time.

Gaobakwe stated that he is trying to invite big international people to the fashion show, adding that these include the likes of the American entrepreneur, the co-founder of the pioneering hip-hop label Def Jam and Creator of the fashion lines Phat Farm and American Classics, Russell Wendell Simmons and his former wife, American fashion model, author and former President and Creative director for Phat Farm, Kimora Lee Simmons, who, along with others, Bissau is trying to get to invest in Botswana.

Bissau also stated that the South African business people are investing in the fashion show, mentioning the Motsepe family and the Royal Mofokeng. He also said the winner of the pageant stands a chance to participate in the South African fashion week.

“Like in the past years, this year we have a new local artist to promote; last year was Vee and this year will possibly be Shanti Lo,” he said.

South African performers and comedians that are not yet confirmed will be called in while local performers will include Hip Hop artists K-Bos, Mr Doe and Scar and the Master of Ceremonies is said to be local king of comedy, Dig Nash.

Tickets to for the show are on sale at P300, ordinary, and P500 for V.I.P seats. According to Gaobakwe, approximately 1000 people are expected to attend.
