Old Naledi Police are investigating a case in which a middle aged woman is suspected to have been stoned to death by an unknown assailant on Saturday night.
Superintendent Titus Molatlhwa of the Old Naledi Police Station said the woman is alleged to have been killed while on her way home from a shebeen in Old Naledi.
Speaking to The Telegraph on Monday, Superintendent Molatlhwa said that the deceased is said to have been hit with a stone on the chest and on the back of the head.
The deceased is said to have been accompanied by her boyfriend at the time of the incident.
Molatlhwa says according to the boyfriend, he (boyfriend) left home for Magatalena’s shebeen where the deceased had gone to spend time with friends.
He says when he did not find the deceased, he returned home since she had told other patrons that she would be back.
Upon arrival, the boyfriend alleged that they all left for a party there in Old Naledi but found people already dispersing.
On their way back home, he said, they were attacked by an unknown half naked man armed with stones.
Superintendent Molatlhwa says according to the boyfriend’s statement, he could not overpower the culprit who, after stoning the deceased, ran away while he ran to seek help.
Molatlhwa said investigations are still ongoing, adding that they believe that the assailant is not a stranger to them but could be somebody from within their community.
“It is disturbing because when we want witnesses for investigations we find them drunk and that makes it difficult for us to carry out our investigations,” said Molatlhwa.
