Only 36 percent of parliamentary questions noticed were answered in 12th parliament

Parliamentary questions are one of the ways that MPs within the Westminster system can hold the executive accountable. However, a revelation that Deputy Speaker Pono Moatlhodi made in his farewell speech to MPs on the last day of the 12th parliament (last Thursday) shows that only 36 percent of the questions through which MPs sought to hold the executive accountable were actually answered. This means that the executive managed to avoid accountability with a score of 64 percent. According to Moatlhodi, of the 6441 questions that were noticed, only 2337 were actually answered.
