Police officer’s son steals from dad

A senior police officer took his son to the Urban Customary Court after he stole his clothes from their family home.

Onnetse Rankeke, 20, from Basimanebagaboiditswe Ward in Serowe, was this Friday arraigned before the Urban Customary Court President, Kgosi Dikwalo Monametsi, and charged with theft common. He pleaded guilty.

Giving evidence in court, Constable Matombo of Central Police Station told the court that the young Rankeke was arrested on October 8, 2006, after his father, Leabaneng Rodney Rankeke, reported that his son had stolen from their house clothes worth P700.

All the stolen clothes were found and recovered from young Rankeke. Constable Matombo told the court that theft cases were giving police problems and were on the increase.

Kgosi Monametsi sentenced him to five strokes on the bum and ordered the police to give back the stolen clothes to the lawful owner.
