For a president responsible for crafting legislation, distributing resources, and leading national campaigns to combat gender-based violence (GBV), to turn and accuse every citizen of being “violent” may not have been the best choice of words. But such is the unenviable position that President Advocate Duma Boko found himself in on January 15th.
Speaking at the opening of the Cabinet Orientation Workshop for the 13th Cabinet, Boko made a valiant effort to defend the minister of youth and gender affairs, Lesego Chombo, in a speech which was far more off-the-cuff than other scripted remarks he’s made before.
