Second Heritage Marathon on

The second Heritage Marathon, an outreach programme run and organised by Friends of the Museum Society (FOMS) and communities of Lerala and Maunatlala constituency, is scheduled for March 4, 2017. 
FOMS chairperson Thekisego Sabo Colledge said at a press briefing at the museum last Thursday that: “The event also fulfils FOMS objectives which include to help promote museum education through various programme to local as well as global communities and promoting and marketing Botswana culture nationally and internationally.”
She also highlighted that the event will be preceded by some activities. From the February 28 to March 1 there will be a workshop to encourage the youth to venture into culture and heritage entrepreneurship. The workshop will cover topics such as heritage and tourism management; project proposals and funding, sports and drugs (anti-doping) as well as entrepreneurship.
“The workshop will be attended by out of school and unemployed youth drawn from most villages in the Lerala and Maunatlala constituency. Between 60 and 100 participants are expected,” she said.
The venue for the Heritage Marathon is Malaka. The day’s programme includes the actual marathon, wellness services, aerobics and the tour of heritage sites.
Colledge said traditional cuisine would be sold at the event to raise funds. 
The winner in the 10km race will get P2 500, second prize P1 250 and third prize P625. For the 21km race the winner gets goes away with P5 000 while second and third-placed winners pocket P2 500 and P1 250 respectively.
She explained that membership for FOMS is open to citizens and non-citizens. Joining fees are P100, P200 and P2 000. The marathon is affiliated to the Botswana Athletics Association.
