Recent verbal exchanges between the Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Kwape and the MP for Sefhare/ Ramokonami, Dr. Gobotswang on the president’s external trips give food for thought. I listened to the debate on television and it appeared the exchanges were in the form of a question by the opposition MP. It appeared the MP was concerned about the many trips the president was undertaking abroad. Dr. Gobotswang used the word “metseletsele” to express concern over the presidential foreign trips. The word means a series of things. There can be a series of football matches or a several things of the same kind which happen one after the other. So in the context of Dr. Gobotswang’s concerns, the President’s foreign trips are just too many and unnecessary. He believes that some of the trips may even be private. It would have been helpful if Dr. Gobotswang had made some comparisons between foreign trips of former presidents and the current one.
