Tati Siding BDP councilor facing charges of common assault

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) special nominated councilor for Tati Siding Village in the Tati East Constituency, Chibuya Kuchwe, was last week arrested by the police and charged with common assault.

The Station Commander of Gerald Police Station in Francistown, Motsholathebe Mothibi, confirmed to Sunday Standard that the wife to the councilor reported the incident to their offices, adding that she had a misunderstanding with her husband after which he allegedly assaulted her by twisting her hand.

“Yes, indeed we received such a complaint and I ordered the police to attend the scene and the councillor was arrested and charged with common assault.”

The Station Commander said that after the councilor was arrested, he spent a night in a jail cell and was released from custody the following day, pending investigation.

Motsholathebe added that the Councilor is facing a similar offence of assault in which he allegedly assaulted his wife last year in December. He added that they have opened charges of common assault and the dockets have been filed with the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Francistown.
“It is very unfortunate that we always have cases like these involving public figures, but I would like to advice public figures to desist from such negative behaviour because they tarnish their images, especially that they are role models to the public,” Mothibi said.
