The CCA vs Universal House Stand-Off Over Mmegi Shares – An Owl’s View

After eight years of litigation, the stand-off between the Competition and Consumer Authority (CCA), on the one hand, and Universal House on the other, has come full circle. The fight is over the latter’s acquisition of shares in Mmegi Investment Holdings (MIH), publishers of Mmegi newspaper, in 2016. The Authority considered the acquisition contra competition law and had ordered the parties to the transaction to unbundle. Specifically, Universal was ordered to divest from MIH. While admitting to the illegality, it stalled. To date the CCA has failed to implement its own decision.
