Top SA Comedians to grace Gaborone again

On June the 6th, Gaborone will receive two of the most respected and gifted South African comedians to give their fans what promises to be a night of absolute laughter. The event, dubbed strictly come laughing comedy show, will be held at Boipuso hall.

The two-hour show, organised by Incepta Communications, will feature SA’s comedians Kagiso Lediga, David Kibuuka and Tats Nkonzo of LNN fame while on the local side it will feature legendary comedian Rib Cracker, along with popular upcoming comedians Phenyo and MaWee. Incepta Communications Managing Director Thabo Majola says they are expecting a large turn-up for the show as it will showcase a slew of talented and absurdly hilarious comedians from Botswana and SA.

“Comedy is a growing industry in Botswana and is currently trending the world over, so we thought it would be an excellent opportunity for us to bring Batswana the best of both worlds by mixing Botswana and South African comedy,” he says.

Majola also added that the comedians they have invited are crowd favourites, each of them being a brand in the comedy sphere. “We have put so much thought in the lineup and this is why we want to cater for everyone who loves comedy. Teaming up these talented acts is solely to make people get their money’s worth as well as top notch entertainment,” he says.

He says that Kagiso Lediga is an award?winning SA stand?up comedian, actor, producer, writer and television presenter. He is best known for creating, writing, producing and starring in a number of shows including Late Night News with Loyiso Gola, which also features both David Kibuuka and Tats Nkonzo. Majola says Kibuuka is undeniably one of the best young talents of South African comedy. “A Finance Honours student with Wits University, he has a unique brand of humour that combines wit and intellect without losing touch with his audiences. He broke into the comedy world when he won 5FM’s Freshest Five nationwide comedy talent search competition and he hasn’t looked back since,” he says of Kibuuka.

He says in 2008 David opened for one of the top comedians in the world in Australia’s top comedian Carl Barron on his SA Tour. “He has an enviable body of television and film work including having played the lead in the hit local movie Bunny Chow which won awards worldwide and was recently chosen as the featured lead on SABC 3’s popular travel programme ÔÇô Going Nowhere Slowly.”

Tats Nkonzo on the other hand is famous for his arsenal of humour, intellect and being a guitarist. Majola says Tats is an unrivalled comedic entertainer; be it on stage or television as he is currently the host of SA’s Got Talent. “He was also profiled on CNN’s African Voices, where he was engaged about his use of stand-up comedy as a nation building tool.”

Majola says the three have varied experiences as comedic entertainers whether on stage or television, and will add to what promises to put fans in absolute stitches.
