Growing frustration over the worsening medicine shortages has spilled into the governing Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) as the backbench raises complaints about Health Minister Dr. Stephen Modise directly with Vice President Ndaba Gaolathe.
Multiple UDC backbenchers have told Sunday Standard that the issue was discussed during a recent meeting with Gaolathe at his official residence. According to the MPs, they complained that Modise had declined to meet them after the close of the last parliamentary sitting, despite requests for a briefing on the state of the country’s public health system.
