In his recent statement, Putin bemoans the day the United Soviet Socialist Republics were dismantled in 1991. He says that is the biggest tragedy for Russia and the former republics surrounding his country.
1991 marked the official end of the Cold War, and when the announcement was made, I did not believe my ears because I had lived all my life under the determinates of the Cold War. Neither did the East Germans believe that they were then joined back together with West Germany.
At that time there was a senior intelligence officer who felt violated by the end of the war. He had served the interests of the USSR across the world including Africa. This was Vladimir Putin. From then on, this fellow worked his way to the top echelons of political leadership in Russia.
