A friendship gone sour resulted in a woman knifing her housemate after a misunderstanding. Poloko Kerapetse, who is self employed and from Pilikwe, was this week arraigned before the Urban Customary Court President, Kgosi Dikwalo Monametsi, and charged with the unlawful wounding of Oaitse Motsamai, who she stayed with at the SSG Flats in Gaborone. She pleaded guilty to the charges.
According to the evidence given to the Urban Customary Court by the State Prosecutor, Constable Ditiro Phirinyana, told the court that Kerapetse found Motsamai in the kitchen using her adaptor and told her to desist since she had hers.
The court heard that the two exchanged sour words and during the argument, Kerapetse grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Motsamai leaving her with wounds.
Kgosi Monametsi told the court that what Kerapetse did was dangerous, as she could have easily killed her housemate with the knife. He advised the two to stay together peacefully and to ask for help from others whenever they have misunderstandings.
Kgosi Monametsi sentenced Kerapetse to one year in jail, wholly suspended for three years. She was also ordered to pay a court fine of P300 before September 30, 2006, failing which, she would be taken to jail for three months.
