A 60-year old man was this Friday brought before the Urban Customary Court President, Kgosi Dikwalo Monametsi, charged with use of insulting language. He pleaded guilty to the charges.
Malani Modengu, from Mengwe Ward in Maitengwe, was arrested on October 4, 2006 after his lover reported to the police that he had insulted her parents and her.
State Prosecutor from the Urban Police Station, Constable Terrance Bakae, told the court that Modengu insulted Lungani Bhidu, together with her parents from Rangeni Ward in Senepe after he took some gas cylinders and other goods from the house they were staying in at Bontleng.
He told the court that Modengu made an anonymous phone call using a public phone but because they had stayed together since 2003, Bhidu knew the voice as that of Modengu.
When asked by Kgosi Monametsi if she still loved her boyfriend, Bhidu said she would not live with someone who insulted her parents.
She told the court that their relationship was over and she never wanted to see her boyfriend face next to hers again.
Bhidu asked the court to tell Modengu to stay away from her.
Monametsi sentenced him to three months in jail, wholly suspended for three years and imposed a P50 court fine to be paid before November, 30, 2006.
He advised Modengu to stay away from Bhidu.
