Workshop on Performance Management slated for next week

The Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC) in conjunction with the Governance and Institutional Development Division (GIDD) this past Thursday held a workshop and media briefing regarding the upcoming Commonwealth Secretariat Regional Workshop on Performance Management which they will be hosting from June 18-22, 2007.

The workshop will mainly target senior public sector officials from the Public Service as they are the ones who are responsible for coordinating the introduction of performance management systems (PMS) and ensuring effective implementation amongst the public sector. Also targeted are directors from agencies that are and will be involved in implementing new PMSs.

Part of the areas to be covered include sharing a common understanding of the PMS concept, framework, tools, techniques and support requirements for effective implementation. It will also focus on learning about the related developments in science delivery, leadership & workplace relationships amongst colleagues. Discussions about the integrated nature of PMS, encompassing both organizational reform and change, along with Human Resource Management (HRM) reforms affecting team and individual performance will be held.

Consultations with the public sector officials in the Botswana Public Service, who have implemented PMS, will be undertaken so as to learn from the experiences of Botswana and other countries about implementation of PMS at central and local government levels.

The BNPC has been very instrumental in the installation and roll out of the Performance Management System in the Botswana Public Service.
