Ramotswa Police have launched a manhunt for two alleged dangerous criminals who broke and destroyed a door to the holding cell and disappeared on Monday.
The men were in custody for armed robberies and were due to appear in Court the same day.
Ramotswa Police Station Commander, Superintendent Sarah Gabathuse, confirmed that two escapees, Teko Ntshupe, 27, and Tirelo Kaote, 28, escaped from custody after breaking a police cell door.
She said the two were to appear before the Ramotswa Magistrates Court on Monday morning to answer to a number of charges, including armed robbery, burglary and theft but they were nowhere to be found.
Gabathuse added that investigations on the matter are still ongoing.
Quizzed on any possible police involvement in aiding the alleged criminals to escape, Gabathuse could not shed light on the matter but only said investigations are ongoing and that she could not rule out any connections with his officers, noting that anything could have happened.
Gabathuse said the two brings to four the number of escapees still at large and posing threats to the lives of residents of Ramotswa and the surrounding area.
“These are dangerous criminals who don’t have mercy; they are giving Ramotswa residents sleepless nights as they break into their dwellings and shops. They are dangerous.”
