Last week during an Umbrella Party rally held in Francistown, the Member of Parliament for Francistown South Constituency, Wynter Mmolotsi, launched attacks on the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) saying that the party is composed of corrupt individuals who have nothing to do with the welfare of Batswana, but only care about their benefits and those of their relatives and circle of friends.
He said that, in the BDP, there are a few individuals who are benefiting from the resources of the country through corruption and nepotism.
“This is the reason why I had to table a motion for the commission of enquiry on the awarding of tenders at the Botswana Defense Force. I promise that I will not rest on this issue until Batswana are given answers on that,” he said.
Mmolotsi said that the BDP has turned into a party where party decisions are made by an individual. He added that the individual has turned the party into his own personal organization and that most of the MPs within the BDP do not love the party, but are only clinging to the BDP for self benefits, such as power and other benefits.
“I can assure you that most of the BDP members in parliament are not happy with how the party is run. They are only there because they want power and have their own self interests. I thank God to have defected from the party,” he told the rally.
Mmolotsi touched on the recent media reports about a Malawian businessman who was allegedly murdered by the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) saying that he will never fear the secret agents. He said that he will continue to sacrifice his life for Batswana and would rather be killed for the truth.
“There is a recent issue in the newspapers about a Malawi businessman who was allegedly murdered by the DIS. I personally will never fear the security agents for speaking the truth,” he said.
He encouraged the participants at the rally to support the Umbrella Party Initiative, adding that through unity they can remove the BDP from power in 2014.
