Unemployed Neo Ketshabetswe, 18, was this week arraigned before Urban Customary Court President, Kgosi Dikwalo Monametsi, charged with theft common.
According to Constable Happy Six of Urban Police Station, Ketshabetswe, of Basimane Ward in Serowe but resident of New Naledi, was on September 26, 2006, invited for some drinks by his friend, Ofentse Supilekae, also a resident of New Naledi in Gaborone.
After a long time of drinking, Ketshabetswe searched his friend’s house and found P240 under the mattresses. He stole the money and left for his own house.
Constable Six told the court that Ketshabetswe was arrested the following day but did not have the stolen money although he admitted to stealing the money from his friend’s house.
Kgosi Monametsi sentenced him to four strokes on the bum and told him to pay P240 in compensation to his friend before November 13, 2006.
