Prisoner faces charges of escaping from lawful custody

A 23-year-old prisoner at the Central Prison in Gaborone was this Friday arraigned before the Urban Customary Court President, Kgosi Dikwalo Monametsi, charged under section 125 of the penal code for escaping from lawful custody.

Nomore Silas Hove, an inmate at the Central Prison, pleaded not guilty to the charges of escaping from lawful custody on September 6, 2006, at Ext 2 Magistrate Court, in Gaborone, where he had been taken to answer for another case.

State Prosecutor from the Central Police Station, Constable Ditiro Phirinyane, told the court that the accused ran away from the police but was re-arrested after a long chase, next to the Industrial Site.

The two police officers who arrested the accused, Constable Tsholofelo and Constable Molathegi, were not present in court and Kgosi Monametsi ordered the police to call them and more witnesses because the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges of escaping from lawful custody.
The case continues next week.
