The Shakedown Dance Show to air on Btv soon

Creative Hub Films, a local film company, are currently filming auditions for a new show, the Shakedown.

The Shakedown reality dance show, which is going to air on Botswana Television for free, will be a competition amongst ten of the best dance crews in Gaborone. The different dance crews will be battling it out in weekly challenges.

Competing dance crews will get a chance to compete for the title of best shake down dance crew, and a cash prize of P25┬á000. This is undoubtedly going to be one of Botswana’s best television shows yet. Creative Hub Films is in the pre-production stage of the biggest television event to hit Botswana.

Gaborone’s incredibly talented and insanely hungry dance crews will crunch, crump, grind, clog, and step and, in every way shape and form, showcase their fancy footwork for the opportunity of a lifetime. The competition is fierce and the stakes are high as the crews battle it out onstage for dance supremacy.

Each week, they’ll step up to the challenge and show off their skills, and each week one crew will be eliminated until the country’s Best Dance Crew prevails and is unveiled during a live finale that one would not want to miss.

“Ultimately, one crew will be left standing and will be crowned ‘The Best Dance Crew in Botswana’.
This is according to Tumelo Maje, who is the co-producer of the television show.

“In addition the winners of the show will receive a cash prize and an opportunity to feature in a new local music video,” he said.

Botlhe Lesetedi, a cinematographer who was filming the audition, says although she was impressed by what she saw from the female dance crews, she was, however, disappointed by the low turnout of female groups.

Tafadzwa Ranganai, who is the editor of the show, says the show has a rather international touch to it since the dancers come from different countries like Zimbabwe, South Africa and Ghana.

Heath Lambardt, a choreographer from Mophato Unique dance studios, who also happens to be the shows’ judge, says, “10 of the city’s best crews will be selected to go head-to-head, putting all they’ve got on the floor as they compete for the title of “best shake down crew.” ┬áHe added: “With everything on the line, these crews know they must do their best to impress the judges and the audience who are going to be voting via sms countrywide.”

The auditions for The Shakedown were held at Masa Centre, on the 5th, 12th and the 19th of May. The Shakedown has already started making waves, featuring in the press and creating quite a buzz on social networking sites, Facebook and Twitter.
